Inherited from Karakhanid [Term?]. Related to Kyrgyz кандай (kanday), Kazakh қалай (qalai), Tuvan кандыг (kandıg), and Yakut хайдах (qaydaq)
Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *ka- (“interrogative stem”) + *-lig (“adjectival suffix”)

- This word is often mistakenly considered an adverb, but actually it is a pronoun.
