Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kalï- (to rise); cognate with Azerbaijani qalxmaq, Bashkir ҡалҡыу (qalqıw), Kazakh қалқу (qalqu), Kyrgyz калкуу (kalkuu), Tatar калку (qalku), Turkmen galkmak, Uzbek qalqmoq and Yakut кылый (kılıy).
