Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tak- (to bind to, add to); cognate with Azerbaijani taxmaq, Bashkir тағыу (tağıw), Kazakh тағу (tağu), Kyrgyz тагуу (taguu), Southern Altai тагар (tagar), Turkmen dakmak and Uzbek taqmoq.
