From Proto-Turkic *sïgïr (“cow”); cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (sïγïr, “cow”), Kazakh сиыр (siyr), Tatar сыер (sıyer), Nogai сыйыр (sıyır), Kumyk сыйыр (sıyır), Uzbek sigir, and Turkmen sygyr (“cow”).
