Etymology

From Arabic سَطَرَ (saṭara). Compare Hebrew סְטִירָה (s'tira, slap). The /s/ became fully emphasised due to proximity to an emphatic. Compare similar development for the word for ruler from the same root: مصطرة (maṣṭara), and the word for line, row: صطر (ṣaṭir).

Noun

صْطار • (ṣṭār) m (dual صطارين (ṣṭārēn), plural صْطارات (ṣṭārāt))

  1. a slap in the face
