Etymology
From Middle Persian 𐭦𐭫𐭢𐭥𐭭 (zargōn) (Persian زرگون (zargun, literally “gold-colored”)), from Ancient Greek Συρικόν (Surikón, “red lead”, literally “Syrian”) (also found as Latin Syricum), syn. σάνδυξ (sándux). إِسْرِنْج (ʔisrinj) is the same word. See Συρία (Suría), however also see *jr̥Hanyam.
