Perhaps from Proto-Semitic *rukba- (knee), metathetic form of Proto-Semitic *birk- (knee), whence also the root ب ر ك (b-r-k). Ehret (1995) derives this word from Proto-Afroasiatic *ruk- (to bend) instead.
