Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀤𑀯𑀤𑀺 (davadi) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀟- (-ḍa-), from Sanskrit द्रवति (drávati). Cognate with Punjabi ਦੌੜਣਾ (dauṛṇā) / دَوڑنا (ḍauṛṇā), Sindhi ڊوڙَڻُ (ḍoṛaṇu) / डोड़णु (ḍoṛaṇu), Gujarati દોડવું (doḍvũ), Nepali दौडनु [dauḍanu], Marathi दौडणे (dauḍṇe), Assamese দৌৰা (doura).
