Etymology
From Classical Syriac, attested as ܚܙܳܩܳܐ (ḥəzāqā, “belt; tie, bond, vinculum”) from the root ܚ-ܙ-ܩ (ḥ-z-q) “to gird; to constrict, to hold or contain tightly; to tighten”. Compare عَزَقة (ʕazaqa, “ring”) corresponding to حَزْقَة (ḥazqa, “constraint in the venter”).
