برغش

Arabic

Etymology

Unknown, explained as a doublet of بُرْغُوث (burḡūṯ) from a variant *purḡūś- of Proto-Semitic *purḡūṯ- (flea). However it may also be from a lost Aramaic word comparing the formation of بَرْغَز (barḡaz, young of a cow) and بَزْر (bazr, seed). Alternatively, from Proto-Mongolic *bargagusun (gnat, mosquito), Kalmyk борһусн (borğusn).
