Etymology
A derivation from Proto-Turkic *bāy (“rich”), whence also بای (bay). Cognate with Southern Altai байыыр (bayïïr), Tuvan байыыр (bayıır), Kazakh баю (baü), Bashkir байыу (bayıw), etc.
