From Arabic أَوْج (ʔawj), from Persian اوگ (owg), from Middle Iranian, ultimately Proto-Indo-European *h₂ewg- (related to increasement). Cognate with Gilaki اوچوک (učuk, soar) and Sanskrit उच्च (ucca).
