Inherited from Prakrit 𑀅𑀁𑀩𑀺𑀮𑀺𑀬𑀸 (aṃbiliyā), from Sanskrit अम्लिका (amlikā). Cognate with Hindustani اِمْلِی (imlī) / इमली (imlī), Vaghri આંબરી (ā̃barī), Marwari आंबली (āmblī) / 𑅐𑅧𑅪𑅮𑅑 (anbli), आमली (āmlī) / 𑅐𑅬𑅮𑅑 (amli), इमली (imlī), ईमली (īmlī) / 𑅑𑅬𑅮𑅑 (imli), Malvi अमली (amlī), Nimadi अमली (amlī).
