Etymology
From جُنْد الْأُرْدُن, "the Military district of Jordan", likely coined from Classical Syriac or Hebrew. Natively related to the root و ر د (w-r-d) meaning "to descend", "to go or come down", "to come upon or come across something", "to come down to water", "an area descending to or a pathway leading to water", "a watering place"; for more see Hebrew יַרְדֵּן (yardén).
