Etymology
From Middle Persian [script needed] (ʾplng /abrang/, “splendour”), from Proto-Iranian *abi-ra(n)ǰ- (“to color, dye”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)reg-. Cognate with Ancient Greek ῤέζω (rézō, “I dye, paint”) and Persian رنگ (rang) itself; also an exact doublet of اورنگ (abranjan, “bracelet”).
