Inherited from Proto-Turkic *īrte- (to seek, search), from earlier *īŕte-. Doublet of اِسْتاماكْ (istēmēk, to seek, pursue).

Cognate with Turkish irdelemek (to search, investigate) and Yakut ирдээ (irdee, to search, track down).
