Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *art- (to increase); cognate with Azerbaijani artmaq, Bashkir артыу (artıw), Kazakh арту (artu), Kyrgyz артуу (artuu), Southern Altai артар (artar), Tatar арту (artu), Turkmen artmak, Uyghur ئارتماق (artmaq), Uzbek ortmoq and Yakut орт (ort).
