Etymology
Borrowed from Polish jarmułka (“skullcap”) and Ukrainian ярмулка (jarmulka), from Turkish yağmurluk (“rainwear”).[1] However, it could also be from or influenced by Medieval Latin almutia (“hood, cowl”) (compare Latin amictus (“clothed, veiled”)).[2]
