Partly borrowed from Ancient Greek φυσικός (phusikós, natural philosopher)[1] and partly from Russian фи́зик (fízik, physicist). Compare Old Armenian փիւսիկեան (pʻiwsikean), and for similar formations see Armenian քիմիկոս (kʻimikos), մաթեմատիկոս (matʻematikos), ակադեմիկոս (akademikos), Georgian ფიზიკოსი (piziḳosi).
