Etymology

The original spelling is աւրիորդ (awriord), of disputed origin. Perhaps composed of *աւրի- (*awri-, lord; lordly), from Urartian 𒂊𒌑𒊑𒂊 (e-ú-ri-e /euri/, lord) or from Iranian *ahur-i- (compare Avestan 𐬁𐬵𐬏𐬌𐬭𐬌 (āhūiri, with regard to Ahura Mazda, stemming from Ahura Mazda)) and *որդ- (*ord-, offspring, son/daughter); see որդի (ordi).
