Old Armenian

Etymology

Uncertain. Usually considered an inheritance from Proto-Indo-European, cognate with Middle Irish múch (smoke), Welsh mwg, Old English smoca (English smoke), Ancient Greek σμύχω (smúkhō, burn with smoldering flame), but the proto-form presents us with difficulties concerning the vocalic length and the velar.
