Etymology
According to Ačaṙean, following Adontz, derived from the name of the Amardi (մարդացիք (mardacʻikʻ)), an Iranian tribe, combined with պետ (pet). It is presumed that a leader of this tribe entered the service of the Armenian court as a chief eunuch, and the word became a synonym for ներքինապետ (nerkʻinapet, “chief eunuch”)․
