ծաղր • (caġr)

1. mockery, sneer, gibe, scoff

Grown from *ծաղ- (*cał-), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵl̥h₂-, *ǵelh₂-, whence also ծիծաղ (cicał). Cognate with Ancient Greek γελάω (geláō, “to laugh”), γέλως (gélōs, “laughter”), γαλήνη (galḗnē, “calm at sea”), γαληνός (galēnós, “calm”).

   ծաղր լինել, կալ, մնալ ― całr linel, kal, mnal ― to be laughed at, derided, ridiculed, made a jest of, to make oneself the laughing-stock of

   ծաղր առնել զոք յայտ յանդիման ― całr aṙnel zokʻ yayt yandiman ― to scorn, to deride one to his face
