Etymology
An Iranian borrowing + -ան- (-an-): compare Middle Persian [script needed] (hwstwk' /xwastūg/, “confessing, believing”), Persian خستو (xostu, “confessing”). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-Iranian *swá and *staw- (“to praise”), from Proto-Indo-European *stew-.[1][2][3]
