Borrowed from Parthian 𐫅𐫁 (db /⁠daβ⁠/, “trick, deception”), which is cognate with Avestan 𐬛𐬀𐬠- (dab-, “to deceive”), Sanskrit दभ् (dabh). Related to the first part of դաւաճան (dawačan).
