Etymology

The older form is արջասպն (arǰaspn)․ Contains արջն (arǰn, black).[1] According to Martirosyan, the second part contains the Iranian word for "iron": compare Sogdian 𐼰𐼼𐼾𐼻𐼷𐼻𐼷 (ʾspnyny /⁠(ə)spanēnē⁠/, of iron), Ossetian ӕфсӕн (æfsæn, ploughshare; iron), Central Kurdish ئاسْن (asin), Persian آهن (âhan, iron).[2]
