Etymology
Ačaṙean, Pokorny and J̌ahukyan derive from Proto-Indo-European *h₃er- (“to move, to stir”).[1][2][3][4] [5] J̌ahukyan reconstructs the proto-form for արմ (arm) as *or-mo- and for արմն (armn) as *ormen-, equivalent to being suffixed with -մ (-m) and -մն (-mn) respectively.[4]
Among the cognates Ancient Greek ὄρμενος (órmenos, “shoot, sprout, stem, stalk”) and ὄραμνος (óramnos, “branch, twig”) are especially close.
