Etymology
Uncertain. Ačaṙean leaves the origin open.
According to J̌ahukyan, probably from Proto-Indo-European *oleyd-, from *ley- (“to eliminate, dissipate, disappear; weak, thin”). Compare Old Norse lítt, German leiden.
According to Ałayan, perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *əleyd-, *oleyd- grown from the root *h₃elh₁- (“to destroy”).
