Etymology
From մայր (mayr, “mother”) + -ա- (-a-) + բերդ (berd, “fortress”). Calque of Old Georgian დედაციხე (dedacixe) which stands in the same passage in the Georgian version of The Georgian Chronicles.[1]

- Mcʿxetʿa was the eldest of them. He buried his father at the entrance of Kʿartʿli on Mount Armaz. The wife of Kʿartʿlos built Mayraberd and the city which is called Ṙiša, also (known as) Partizakʿalakʿ.
