ӧркӧш

Southern Altai

Etymology

From *örkäč "camel's hump", probably derived from Proto-Turkic *ȫr- (to rise).

Cognate with Bashkir үркәс (ürkəs, camel's hump), Tatar өркәч (örkäç, camel's hump), Kazakh өркеш (örkeş, camel's hump), Kyrgyz өркөч (örköc, camel's hump), Kumyk оьркеч (örkeç, camel's hump), Uzbek oʻrkach (camel's hump), Uyghur ئوركەچ (orkech, camel's hump);

should be kept separate from *örküč, as attested in Turkmen örküç (camel's hump), Turkish hörgüç (camel's hump).
