Etymology

According to Tenishev et al,[1] from a Mongolic source, from Proto-Mongolic *erme (wormwood) – compare Mongolian эрэм (erem, wormwood). Note however Hungarian üröm.

Cognate with Tatar әрем (ärem, wormwood).
