From Old Ossetic *ardun-, from Proto-Iranian *dráwnam (“bow”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dráwnam (“wooden object”), from Proto-Indo-European *dréw-no-m, from *dóru (“wood”). Cognate with Persian درونه (darune, “bow”), Sanskrit द्रोण (droṇa), Baluchi درین (drīn).
