Etymology
From Proto-Chukotko-Kamchatkan *qora, compare Koryak ӄояӈа, Alutor ӄураӈа, Itelmen ӄос.
Derived by Fortescue from Proto-Samoyedic *korå (“male, reindeer bull”) from Proto-Uralic *kojera, and further connected with Even ора̇н (orȧn, “reindeer”) (from Proto-Tungusic *oran) and Southern Yukaghir хорой (qoroj, “two-year-old male reindeer”).
