Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yẹtmiĺ (seventy),[1][2] equivalent to ҫиччӗ (śiččĕ, seven) + -мӗл (-mĕl).

Cognate with Khalaj yêtmiş, Turkish yetmiş, Uzbek yetmish and Bashkir етмеш (yetmeş).
