Calque of Classical Mongolian ᠶ᠋ᠣᠰᠤᠲᠠᠢ (yosutai̯). By surface analysis, ёзу (yozu, “custom”) + -луг (-lug, ornative suffix), literally “with custom”. Compare Mongolian ёстой (jostoj), Khamnigan Mongol ёсотой (josotoj), Buryat ёһотой (johotoj), Kalmyk йоста (yosta).
