Etymology
From Proto-Turkic *agrï-t-ïg (“pain”), an action noun of *agrï-t- (“to cause pain; to feel pain in a specific spot; to be ill”), originally a causative form of *agrï- (“to ache; be ill”). Also Proto-Turkic *agrï-g (“pain”).
Compare to Tatar авырту (awırtu, “pain”), Bashkir ауыртыу (awırtıw, “pain; to feel pain in a specific spot”); Kazakh ауырту (auyrtu, “to cause pain”), Yakut ыарыт- (ıarıt-, “to cause pain; to be ill”), Turkish ağrıtmak (“to cause pain”), etc.
