From *čaqïrïm (“the distance at which a shout as a voice signal can be heard; earshot”), from Proto-Turkic *čaqïr- (“to call, hail”).
Cognate with Kazakh шақырым (şaqyrym), Bashkir саҡрым (saqrım), Southern Altai чакырым (čakïrïm), Kumyk чакъырым (çaqırım), Uzbek chaqirim, Uyghur چاقىرىم (chaqirim), Turkmen çakyrym (“verst”).
