From Old Church Slavonic цѣломѫдрьѥ (cělomǫdrĭje), а Calque of Ancient Greek σωφροσύνη (sōphrosúnē). Formed as цял (cjal, whole) + -о- (-o-) + мъ́дър (mǎ́dǎr, wise) + -ие (-ie).
