Attested witin Rupian dialects. Cognate with dialectal Macedonian лопка (lopka, “snowball”).
Probably akin to Russian хло́пок (xlópok, “cotton”), Czech chlup (“hair”), Slovak chlp (“loop, lock of hair”), dialectal Polish chłupy pl (“hair”), from Proto-Slavic *xlъpъ/*xъlpъ.
