търпя

Bulgarian

Etymology

From Proto-Slavic *tьrpěti, probably akin to Bulgarian треперя (treperja, to tremble, to shake), тръпна (trǎpna, to shiver). The original meaning attested in Church Slavonic and still used dialectally was “to suffer, to experience difficulties”. Over time, it evolved to the modern “to endure, to tolerate”.
