сэлэх
Mongolian
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /seɮəx/
Etymology 1
Seemingly specific to Khalkha, most other Mongolic languages (including dialects of Inner Mongolian) use the cognate of умбах (umbah, “to dive”).
Perhaps a corrupted form of Proto-Mongolic *selbi-, compare Buryat һэлихэ (helixe, “to row”).
Compare also the name of Selenge river, attested since Old Turkic times.
