стеж

Bulgarian

Uncertain. Possibly related to Bulgarian стежер (stežer, pole), which also means oak in some dialects. Cf. also Romanian stejar (oak).

On a surface level, resembles Old Church Slavonic остегъ (ostegŭ), остежь (ostežĭ, zip, fastener (of cloths)) and Polish ścieg (stitch), Czech steh (stitch) from Proto-Slavic *stegъ.
