Usage notes

In 2022, the Russian president Putin used this word in its full form (специа́льная опера́ция) to describe his army's invasion of Ukraine, and furthermore, within Russia it is illegal to refer the invasion as a "war" or "invasion". Ever since, pro-Putin Internet users use "спецопера́ция" to refer to the same invasion.
