славина

Bulgarian

Etymology

Borrowed from Romanian slăvină, probably of Slavic origin, ultimately equivalent to Proto-Slavic *slavь (stopple) + -ина (-ina) (which is perhaps akin to Lithuanian šlúoti (to sweep)). Skok (in reference to the Croatian cognate) derives it from Vulgar Latin lavāre (to wash).
