скръндза

Bulgarian

Etymology

Per Mladenov (favoured by BER, but considered with reservations by Vasmer), probably related to Bulgarian скре́жав (skréžav, stingy), Russian скря́га (skrjága, cheapskate), presumably from hypothetical Proto-Slavic *skręga. Superficially, could also reflect скърна́ (skǎrná, disgrace) + -за (-za).
