Russian

Etymology

Inherited from Old East Slavic скꙑтати сѧ (skytati sę), from Proto-Slavic *skytati (sę). Cognate with Serbian Church Slavonic More distantly cognate with Lithuanian kutė́ti (to shake), Proto-Germanic *skundijaną (to accelerate). Probably from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kewt- (to shake, rattle).
