Related to Finnish hyö and Erzya сынь (siń). Compare Skolt Sami sij, Kildin Sami сыйй (syjj) and Northern Sami sii.

Perhaps borrowed from Russian вши (vši).
The connection with Proto-Uralic *täje is considered unlikely.
