Etymology
Archaic word for witness from Proto-Slavic *sъvědъkъ (possibly *sъvědokъ[1]), superseded by Bulgarian свидетел (svidetel) (a loanword from Russian). Formed from the obsolete вям (vjam, “to witness, to have seen”) + -ок (-ok).
