Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Uralic *puwɜ-~*puγɜ- (“to blow”) (compare Eastern Mari пуаш (puaš), Hungarian fúj, Tundra Nenets пӯць (pūcʹ°)). Ultimately onomatopoeic.
