Borrowed from Russian негодя́й (negodjáj), from Proto-Slavic *negodějь. Morphologically equivalent to негоду́вам (negodúvam, to resent; to rebel, revolt) + -яй (-jaj). Akin to Czech Nehodiv (shortened from an earlier *Nehodejevo) - a village in Bohemia.
